Balancing professional goals with a growing family, I faced the difficult challenge of trying to “do it all.” These pressures became the catalyst for self-improvement, changing my mindset and approach to business and life.
In 2021, amidst a rapidly changing world due to COVID-19, I founded the Sunshine Real Estate Team with a clear mission: to spread light in the community through our work. The name 'Sunshine' perfectly encapsulates my goal to bring positivity and clarity to the often-overwhelming process of buying and selling homes. However, it was during this exciting time that I was also pregnant with my second child. It was the ultimate test of my resilience and adaptability, learning to balance all my roles as a wife, mother, team leader, and REALTOR®.
My entry into the real estate industry in 2017 was driven by a desire for independence and flexibility, traits that my previous corporate roles could not offer. After my first property investment at the end of 2016, I realized the potential of real estate and obtained my license. This move was not just about a career change but about reshaping my entire lifestyle. For the first few years, I focused on educating myself and providing the best service to my clients. When I started my team, I faced an entirely new learning curve, now becoming the leader that needed to help my agents be successful.
Simultaneously, my personal life demanded as much courage and strength as my professional life. Both of my sons, Mason and Wesley, spent their first weeks in the NICU after being born prematurely. With my second, Wesley, I not only had to worry about his well-being but also maintain the responsibilities of my new team. It was the ultimate challenge trying to be there for my family and business. The support of my husband, Travis, was crucial during these trying times, providing stability and reassurance when I needed it most.
Professionally, I learned the importance of setting boundaries—a skill that became invaluable on both fronts. I established specific times for family, such as uninterrupted dinners and school drop-offs. This not only brought structure to my day but also ensured that I did not lose sight of my priorities at home. My clients often share my family values and can appreciate that when I am with them, they have my attention 100%.
The evolution from an employee to a business owner was marked by a significant shift in mindset. It took years to transition fully, with continuous learning and self-improvement along the way. Joining a coaching program was a transformative experience that helped me become more organized and intentional, both as a leader in real estate and as a parent.
Reflecting on this period of my life, the intertwining of personal growth and professional development has been profound. Balancing these two pillars of my life where I find true purpose—family and career—has not only driven my success but has also enriched my life immeasurably. On this journey, I have learned that being an entrepreneur is more than creating a business; it is about creating a lifestyle that reflects my priorities and values. I’m grateful and proud to have not only achieved my professional goals but also to have the flexibility to be there for my sons as they reach their own milestones.
My family and I love exploring our community. We often visit local parks and enjoy attending child-friendly festivals and events. My husband and I like to try new restaurants, turning each outing into an enjoyable 'research project' for future recommendations to clients. I am also actively involved in 100 Women of the Hill Country and the Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club, which allow me to give back and stay connected to my community.
My journey into real estate investing began with curiosity and the influence of a corporate colleague who introduced me to the BiggerPockets community. Fascinated by the concept of generating passive income, I began property flipping and acquiring rental properties. This hands-on experience has been pivotal in shaping my approach to real estate transactions and client relationships.
